Having anglers actively fishing an area is a great way to learn a lot about what fish are utilizing this habitat.One boat showcased that the highly coveted bonefish inhabits Hobe Sound. Jeff DubsLight-tackle fishing has always been a part of the WPBFCs angling identity.Kim Siegert successfully caught and released a bonefish on 4 lb. line with an artificial lure. This won theThe Robinson familyBest Catch on Spin 4 award; combining that with 6 other species landed, Kim was also named the Top Lady Angler of the outing. Dan Miller had a banner day, earning him the Widest Variety award by logging in 9 different species, everything from a big moonfish to spanish mackerel.Dan also caught a 23 snook on fly 20 tackle, good enough to claim the Best Catch on Fly prize. Cameron Marsh, while fishing with his dad Kevin, won Top Junior Angler. Cameron caught and released a bunch of mutton snapper, one of his 6 different species landed, for aGeorge total of 17 fish.The Marsh crew credited their productivePataneday to drifting live shrimp. Catching ladyfish is typically a sure thing when in the Sound. Nelson Schad took advantage of this wintertime bite, catching and releasing 16 of them for the Most Ladyfish Releases, an award that really encapsulates the action to be had while fishing in this outing. Mike Robinson caught the Largest Snook and had the Most (individual) Snook Releases. His snook measured 27.5 and was 1 of 4 line-siders he released Arthurthat day. ShelleyBlumerWith so many anglers plugging docks and mangroves or jig- Kronshageging around different flats and coves, theres bound to be some Dan Outstanding Catches reported as well. Jeff Dubs successfully Miller hooked and released an est. 40 lb. tarpon while fishing the Loxa-hatchee river, using 8 lb. line with a 15 lb. leader.Other notable catches included a black drum caught by Steven Fayer, and a big barracuda caught by junior angler, Tristan De Bree. Going fishing as a club is great way to connect members and give everyone another reason to spend a day on the water.
