Longtime Fishing Club member Dan Kleiser of Jupiter won the James P. Nora Award for the heaviest snook. Dan caught, weighed and released his 30.5 lb. snook using a topwater lure on Plug 16 tackle in the Loxa- hatchee River last July. Lachlan Cheatham of Palm Beach Gardens won the Tracy M. Leas III International An- gling Trophy with a variety of exceptional catches that included over 120 bonefish, 22 mutton snapper, 13 tar- pon and a couple of permit all on fly tackle. His impres- sive list of entries included a flats grand slam (tar- pon, permit and bonefish) and a rare flats super slam (bonefish, tarpon, permit & snook) on fly, all on the same day. Lang was fishing in the productive waters off Cayo Largo located on the south side of Cuba (Inci- dentally, he will be giving a program on fishing this region at the clubhouse on September 2nd this year). WPBFC member Dawn Samuels earned the Richard Jeck Memorial Tagging Award. Dawn fished hard the final five days of the calendar year to catch, tag and release the remaining sails she needed. A minimum of 20 tagged billfish is required to qualify for this coveted award. She becomes the second WPBFC member to win the honor since the trophy’s inception in 2007. Heather Murray, who won it in 2009 & 2011, is the only other club member to win the trophy.
