Ten soldiers, their family members, five non-military aides, along with a group of local fire fighters ventured offshore in search of dolphin and other local game fish. The Fishing Club treated the group to breakfast at the Sailfish Marina prior to their fishing day. Unsettled weather delayed the trip departure a few hours, but that did not dampen the enthusiasm of all involved. The sol- diers, six of which were Purple Heart recipients, traveled from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, DC; Camp Lejeune Marine Base in North Carolina; and San Antonio, TX. A west wind hindered the action, but many tugged on amberjacks, that fell victim to big sharks. Exciting stuff for individuals who have spent very little time on the water! Sandro Moreta, a Purple Heart recipient, from North Carolina caught his first ever dolphin during the outing. The blue water fishing trip aboard topnotch sport fishing boats was a new experience for all the guests. A handful of very generous members helped pull the effort together this year. Donating their time to the cause were, Trouble Maker a 68’ Dean Johnson (Capt. Peanut and Capt. John Meskiel), Sandra T a 44’ Graves (Serena & Alexis Wilson, Capt. Frank Branch & Troy Kent), Miss Budweiser a 50’ Rybovich (Michael Flanigan, Capt. Bill Davis & Jeff Bickel) & That’s My Hon a 57’ Monterey (Capt. Ken Jerkins, George McNally, Martin Jarvis & Glenn Martin). Club pho- tographer Leonard Bryant was on hand as well snapping pictures for the veterans. The Fishing Club’s charitable foundation has helped coordinate this fishing event for the past five years in conjunction with the West Palm Beach Waterfront Warriors program. The PBCFF is grateful for the opportunity to be involved and give something back to our veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country. Thank you to all the Fishing Club members who help make this annual outing a reality for these deserving veterans. We look forward to doing it all over again next year! Wounded Warriors Go Fishing This spring the Fishing Club held another very successful Marine Yard Sale fundraiser for our charitable foundation. The one-day sale generated over $25,000...an incredible total that simply would not be possible without the dedicated support of many hard working volunteers. While the sale only lasts five hours, a years worth of effort goes into the event. We would like to offer special thanks to our Yard Sale coordinator, Capt. Rick Ross for yet another outstanding job keeping our volunteers focused and helping in many ways behind the scenes. Many thanks to board member Bill Watson as well, who literally puts in countless hours throughout the entire year repairing and clean- ing reels for this short lived feeding frenzy. Our thanks also to member Chris Kriendler for fixing rods during the course of the year in preparation for the sale. We are also very grateful for the year round storage space support we receive from WPBFC board member Chuck Gerlach at Ande Monofilament. Thanks also to members Ian Brown and Martin Hamilton at Brown Moving and Storage for moving all that donated ‘stuff’ each year prior to the sale! The list of support crew and volunteers is long... thank you to all who make this day such an efficient fundraiser for the club’s founda- tion. Finally, a hearty thank you to every member who donated items or showed up the day of the sale to support the club. We look forward to doing all again next April!
