The temporary ex- hibit runs March 13th through August 26th at the museum, located in the R.A. Gray Building in Tallahassee. More than 100 artifacts gathered from various organizations and individuals around the state will be included in the exhibit, including artwork, his- toric images, trophies, fish mounts and tackle that will help tell the tale of sport fishing in the Sunshine State. Items on loan from the WPBFC in- clude vintage photographs, a fishing jacket and mounts of sailfish, dolphin, bass and tarpon. The WPBFC’s fa- mous Mrs. Henry R. Rea trophy, the top award in the annual Silver Sailfish Derby, will also be featured. “This is a wonderful opportunity for the club to share some of it's incredible history with the public outside our region. We are honored to assist and participate,” said WPBFC Chairman Pete Schulz. From the 19th century to the pres- ent, sport fishing has drawn people to Florida’s coastal and inland water- ways. This exhibit explains how fishing became such a popular activity for visitors and residents alike. “This exhibit allows visitors to experience and learn about the fascinating history and lineage of sport fishing in the Sunshine State,” said Secretary of State Ken Detzner. “We hope visitors and Floridians alike will get hooked on Florida fishing as so many have before them.” Items on loan from others for the exhibit include a pair of environ- mental paintings by marine artist Stanley Meltzoff, the Metropolitan Miami Fishing Tournament’s Henry H. Hyman Memorial trophy from the International Game Fish Association and numerous additional artifacts showcasing the rise of fishing as a rec- reational activity in Florida. Twenty- two early twentieth century paintings depicting various species of fish by artist William Aiken Walker will also be on display from the collections of the Museum of Florida History. Year History, will give a presentation of Florida Fishing History at the ex- hibit’s opening reception. Throughout the summer, the Museum will host numerous educational programs for people of all ages. It will also feature interactive elements through electron- ic games that allow visitors to experi- ence fishing in Florida for themselves. The programs will interpret various types of fishing or significant periods in Florida’s angling history. “Many organizations and individuals have been generous in loaning us items,” said Museum Director Dr. Jeana Brunson. “As a result this promises to be an educational and entertain- ing exhibit.” For more information on exhibits and programs, visit the Museum of Florida History website at www.museumoffloridahistory.com. Welcome to the Board... Tricia Borsch Nelson Schad Chuck Gerlach The club is pleased to welcome Nelson Schad, Tricia Borsch and Chuck Gerlach to the WPBFC Board of Directors. Nelson Schad of Jupiter has been an extremely active club member for over 20 years and comes to the board with outstanding credentials. He is a past Volunteer of the Year recipient, past Winter Fishing Contest Grand Champion angler, multiple club record hold- er and active on various club committees. His two kids, Morgan and Kevin, are date of birth lifetime members. In the 1990’s Tricia Borsch worked at the Fishing Club in an administrative ca- pacity. Her and her daughter, Holly, both of Tequesta, are lifetime club members. Tricia plays an active role each year at the KDW Clas- sic and is very supportive of the annual Kid’s Fishing Day program. Chuck Gerlach of West Palm Beach also plays a critical volunteer role each year in the KDW Classic. His com- pany, Ande Monofilament, is world renowned in the fish- ing industry and has been a sponsor of club events for decades. Each one of these individuals brings a unique and important perspective to the WPB- FC…welcome aboard!
