In addition to the equipment the foundation do- nated an assortment of tackle that will be used for instruc- tional programming, outings and awards for the children. “This means so much and is so helpful to our program. We are very grateful for the foundation’s support,” said program coordina- tor Robert Snow. To date, over 1,300 fishing rod and reels have been donated to area youth organizations through this PBCFF initiative. Robert Snow (c) with Grant (l) & Joseph (r) Bogdan Nathan Scholarship Awarded The PBCFF has awarded its most recent Captain Al Na- than Memorial Scholarship to Florida Atlantic University graduate student Mathew Denton. The $2,500 scholar- ship aided Mathew with his thesis work on the foraging ecology of mangrove terrapins. “The timing of this scholar- ship is especially important for me since my wife was laid off. It has been difficult continuing our education while supporting our two children at home. This scholarship not only helps with my schooling, but it shows our children the importance that contributors like the PBCFF place on education, and that hard work doesn’t go unnoticed,” said Denton, who currently works with the U.S. Geological Survey. Since 2003, the PBCFF has awarded over $24,000 in scholarships to FAU graduate students in memory of longtime Fishing Club member Capt. Al Nathan. April 12th Marine Yard Sale Set to Be Biggest Ever The PBCFF's annual fundraising Marine Yard Sale is shaping up to be a great event! A large quantity of marine and fishing related items has already been donated. In particular, a large volume of fishing reels and lures will be featured. The one day event raises money for the youth education and marine conservation initiatives of the Foundation. If you'd like to support this event consider making a donation of unwanted gear. We look forward to seeing everyone bright and early April 12th at the Fishing Club! The West Palm Beach Fishing Club’s (WPBFC) charitable foundation, the Palm Beach County Fishing Founda- tion (PBCFF) has made another $1,000 contribution to the Dolphinfish Research Program based in Charleston, South Caro- lina. The PBCFF has been very supportive of this well organized program, which is helping give resource managers a better insight into the migratory patterns of this economically important fish. “The support of environmentally minded groups like the West Palm Beach Fishing Club has allowed this study to gather important information that will aid in a better understanding of this magnificent gamefish. You are a great example for other Florida fishing clubs to follow,” said program Director Donald Hammond. Since 2010 the PBCFF has contributed $4,500 to this ongoing research ef- fort. We gratefully acknowledge WPBFC lifetime member Capt. Bob Frevert who has played an active role in both tagging dolphin and financially supporting the program.
