17 Tight Lines Bulletin - Spring 2018 2017 annual Angling Trophy Winners Colby Borland Beinecke Blue Marlin Trophy Presented annually to the member scoring the most points for blue marlin releases in the Bahamas (100 pts.) and Florida (300 pts.) Tracy Schneider Memorial Trophy Presented annually to the member scoring the highest total points for sailfish releases in Florida waters based on the following point values: caught and released on live bait (100 pts.), dead bait (300 pts.), pure artificial lures (500 pts.), and fly (1000 pts.). Leas International Angling Trophy In memory of Donald S. Leas. Presented annually to the member who makes the most outstanding catch or catches in international waters. Can be fresh or salt water. The Nora Award Presented annually to the member catching the heaviest snook within Florida. Susan McCart Skylar Vallancourt Susan McCart Susan McCart of Sarasota took home the WPBFC’s Beinecke Atlantic Blue Marlin Release Trophy. Susan caught & released 6 blue marlin in the Bahamas between mid-May and early June of last year to earn the prestigious title, which has been presented since 1960.  The WPBFC Angling Committee is pleased to recognize the following winners of the club’s 2017 annual angling trophies. These awards, some of which date back more than 50 years, are highly coveted honors among club members and recognize outstanding angling achievements. The James P. Nora Award for the heaviest snook has been won by Colby Borland of Chapin, South Carolina.  He caught, weighed and released his 33 lb. snook using a live sand perch, while fishing from the Juno Pier in July. Colby is following in his father's footsteps...Gary Borland (the dad) won Skylar Vallancourt of North Palm Beach captured the Tracy M. Schneider Memo- rial Sailfish Release Trophy in 2017 with 29 releases on live bait (2,900 pts.). Even though she has only been a member for 2 years, Skylar has proven herself to be one of the Club's top lady anglers! The coveted Donald S. Leas III International Angling Trophy was awarded to Susan McCart in 2017. She tallied an impressive variety of catches including 6 blue marlin, 1 white marlin and 3 sailfish in the Bahamas, 22 Pacific sailfish, 2 yellowfin tuna and 3 roosterfish in Costa Rica. Richard Jeck Memorial Billfish Tagging Trophy Presented annually to the member who tags the most billfish, including swordfish, off Florida & the Bahamas. Anglers must use approved Billfish Foundation or National Marine Fisheries Service tags. Minimum of 20 fish must be tagged to win award. Jacob Lepera Jacob Lepera of Boynton Beach took top honors in the Jeck Memorial Billfish Tagging competition in 2017 with a total of 49 sailfish tagged & released, setting the new trophy record. The Nora Award has been presented annually since 1965 by the Nora Family.
