8WestPalmBeachFishingClubmoremembernewsLongtimeWestPalmBeachFishingClubWPBFCmemberGwenHahnofPalmBeachGardenswasinductedintotheInternationalWomensFishingAs-sociationIWFAHallofFameinAprilinPalmBeach.TheIWFAwww.iwfa.orgisagroupofwomenwholovetoshandenjoythecamaraderieofthesport.Theorga-nizationwasformedin1955topromotewomensshingandovertheyearshasbecomeoneofthemostprestigiouswomensshingclubsintheworld.Gwenisonlythe30thpersontobeelectedtotheIWFAHallofFame.TheIWFAhonoredGwenforheroutstandingcontributionsovertheyearsbeginningwithmembershipin1998.ShewasPresidentfrom2007to2009hasservedontheBoardofDirectorsinnumerouscapacitiesandalsoservedontheScholarshipBoardasaTrusteeandChairman.Duringher14yearsasamembershehashelpedorganizeIWFAfunctionsfromannualawardsluncheonstotournamentsandfunaments.GwenorganizedtheIWFAs50thanniversaryGalaattheIGFAco-developedtheIWFAwebsiteandco-developedamembershipprogramtoassistDistrictReps.GwenisanactiveWPBFCmemberandaccomplishedangler.ShehaswontheFishingClubsprestigiousRichardS.BeineckeAtlanticBlueMarlinRe-leaseTrophyformostmarlinreleasedinayearoffFloridaandorBahamasonthreeseparateoccasions.Sheoncecaughtandreleasedsixbluemarlininasingleday.ShereceivedtheLouisS.BoskiMemorialTrophyformostoutstandingcatchduringtheannualSilverSailfshDerbyin2000and2009.GwenhasshedtheSailfshDerbywithanintrepidgroupoffellowwomenanglersincludingregularsPatOHaraSusanMcCarthyandPoppyBrownleeforthepast8years.InmostofthoseDerbystheallfemaleteamshedaboardanopen27boatoftenthesmallestvesselintheeetAnoutstandingmemberofthecommunityGwenalsovolunteersattheBushWildlifeSanctuaryinJupiterandtheWomensAbuseCenterinWestPalmBeach.CongratulationsGwenHahnInductedintoIWFAHallofFameTonquinLaGroneofLakeMaryFloridapassedawayinearlyJuly.Hewasasuccessfultriallawyerforover40yearspriortohisretirement.Tonwasamemberofmanyenvironmentalandconservationorganizations.Anavidboaterandanglerhewasathirty-sixyearmemberoftheWestPalmBeachFishingClub.HeespeciallyenjoyedyshingandytyingdevelopingseveraloriginalypatternsforFloridagameshandrainbowtroutinAlaska.FormanyyearsTonwasanactiveparticipantintheFishingClubsannualtrektoFlamingoinEver-gladesNationalPark.Hewasmyshingpartner.Weusedtoshtogetherinhissixteen-footDolphinskiffbutIgottiredofdodginghisy-castingsoIboughtmyownboatWesuredidhavealotoffuntogetherrecalledfriendSkipBurrell.LaGroneRememberedJohnJolleyofBoyntonBeachpastpresidentchairmanandcurrentmem-beroftheWPBFCBoardofDirectorshasbeenappointedtoserveasavotingmembertotheSouthAtlanticFisheryManagementCouncilSAFMC.TheCouncilmakesrecommendationstotheNationalMarineFisheriesServiceNMFSregardingallissuesrelatedtofederallymanagedshspecies.HeattendedhisrstcouncilmeetingthisAugustinCharlestonSC.ThisisgreatnewsforshandshermensaidWPBFCpresidentTomTwyford.Johnsbusinessbackgroundpastmarineresearchandlifelongshinganddivingexperiencewillhelpguidethecounciltowardsmakingfairandsustainablesheriesmanagementdecisions.WeshouldallthankGovernorRickScottfornomi-natingJohnandNOAASecretaryofCommerceGaryLockeformakingthiswiseappointment.JohnJolleybeganshinganddivinginPalmBeachCountyinthe1950s.HegraduatedfromtheUniversityofFloridawithadegreeinbiologyandservedformanyyearsasaresearcherwiththeFloridaFishWildlifeResearchInstitutewherehehelpedmakeearlydiscoveriesaboutAtlanticsailshkingmackerelredtideandswordshamongotherresearchef-forts.JohnalsoservesontheNMFSHighlyMigratorySpeciesAdvisoryPanelandhasextensiveexperiencewiththemodelsandstatisticsusedtomakesheriesstockassessments.JohnisalsoachampiontournamentanglerwinningtheprestigiousMas-tersInvitationalAnglingTournamentin2001.GivenJohnsvastexperienceasashermanandwithsheriesis-suesImextremelycondentthathewillserverecreationalshingwellforyearstocomesaidWPBFCboardmemberChesterBrewer.IamhonoredandpledgetolistencarefullydomyhomeworkandhelpmyfellowcouncilmembersmakethewisestandfairestdecisionsforoursheriessaidJolleywhoacknowledgestherewillbemanychallengingissuesahead.JolleySelectedtoServeonSAFMCGwenHahnTonLaGrone
